Marsha Norman and Lucy Simon's play, "The Secret Garden" is a re-imagining of the classic novel, "The Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett. This musical is one rare case in which a timeless story is improved upon: with some of the loveliest and sweetest music ever written for the stage, and the rich spiritual dimension of the "Dreamers" -people who have passed on but are still very much tied to the people and places in the story.

The Secret Garden is known as a children's story. While the play has some young roles and can appeal to a young audience, it is primarily a cast of adults telling a deep story. A story about becoming better souls, learning to trust that the world can be beautiful and magical again even after a severe loss, that people, like gardens, can appear grey and dormant but where there is a living core underneath and with the right care, a grey tangle can burst into beautiful blooms.
