In this drama by Kent Cooper, a World War II B-24 bomber pilot has been haunted by a tragic loss during the war, and by feelings of responsibility for it. He has tried to forget, but his sons' eligibility for the draft during the Vietnam War brings it all back to the forefront. When it becomes clear that there is much more to the story than his family know, he can no longer avoid telling them what happened. Though doing so is cathartic for him, it brings surprises for others. Set in 1968, the play uses the context of the turmoil in America at the time to explore issues that are equally relevant today: conflicting attitudes about war, as well as patriotism, camaraderie, and the impact of combat experience on the survivors, and even on future generations.
